Dreading Grand Slam 2024

The Final!

Join us on Sunday, 7th January for the Grand Slam when the best performance poets from Dreading Slam 2023 compete against each other to win the title of the Dreading Slam Champion for the next 12 months. The showdown will commence at 7.30pm with doors opening 15 minutes before the start. It promises to be a lively, fun evening’s entertainment. And it’s Free to come along….

The poets taking part are those who have qualified through the monthly Open Mic heats that are held on the first Sunday of every other month. 2023 has seen some incredibly talented Slam Poets win through to the Final making for a hotly contested event and gives you, the audience, the unique opportunity to hear the very best of Berkshire Poetry. You might even be randomly selected to judge the performances and become part of the event. (Please note that this contest is not Open Mic).

There will, however, be an Open Mic element at the show with our ever popular Quick Fire Contest. Judged by the loudest applause, the theme for this event is “Resolution”. To take part, just bring along some short poems (up to a maximum of five lines long) and join the fast-moving queue.

Three Times Dreading Slam Champion, and BBC Berkshire War of The Words Winner Sarah Smith (Wordsmith) will be our Special Guest for the evening and will be the Master of Ceremonies for the Grand Slam. Definitely an appearance not to be missed.

Our regular Dreading Slam Open Mic Competition will return to its usual format from Sunday the 4th February and then every first Sunday of the month for the rest of the year giving you 11 chances to qualify for next year’s Grand Slam.
