Anderson’s savage satire on Englishness and public schooling won the Palme d'Or at the 1969 Cannes Film Festival. It features an incendiary performance from Malcolm McDowell - pre-A Clockwork Orange - as Mick Travis, an equally authority-averse lead character, in an undisputed classic of British cinema.
