A Touch Of Evil (Orson Welles 1958)

Doors: 7pm Short Films: 7.30pm Main feature: 8.00pm

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Just reissued is Welles’ noir thriller (quite different from the expressionistic Lady From Shanghai we showed last year). This is dark shadows, soft tones and murky half lights. The action takes place in a Mexican/US border town where an American engineer has been murdered. Welles is in full control from the masterful opening sequence and ensures every shot is memorable. The story takes us into an increasingly dark world driven by the director's dark vision of human nature and his bravura filmmaking.
