Stand Up Cinema September: Forbidden Planet

Price:
£5 – or a whole year’s membership for only £10

Forbidden Planet (Fred M. Wilcox, 1956). A starship crew goes to investigate the silence of a planet’s colony only to find two survivors and a deadly secret. There’s some slightly retro sexual politics, but this is the quintessential space movie - reputedly the film that inspired Gene Rodenberry to create Star Trek. A reworking of The Tempest, Shakespeare’s ‘New World’ here harbours the creature from the id as well as the prototype of Robby The Robot from Lost In Space.

Stand Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. Stand Up Cinema promotes screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems.
