April – July programme coming soon

Damien's picture

Due to a hiccup at the printers, the April – July programme hasn’t quite made it into our hands yet.

We’re hoping to get copies into the centre (and the other locations around town where we drop them off) very soon, but in the meantime, here are a few of our top picks for the next few months, followed by the complete list.

Watch out for…

APRIL

Club Velocity - Friday 24 April 8pm

Tom Williams (minus The Boat): It’s been a while, but he’s finally back at the Rising Sun - solo this time. Sid reckons he’s one of the best acts to ever play here (well, over the last ten years...). Supported by Matt Maltese and Dicky

MAY

Abdoulaye Samb - Friday 1 May 8pm

Abdoulaye Samb is a guitarist, singer and composer from Senegal. His original music is inspired by Fula and Mandinka cultures and his distinctive musical style has grown out of his travels, collaborations and researches in Africa and Europe. It promises to provide a wonderfully intimate experience of African/Senegalese music.

Stand Up Cinethon (Year of Culture Fundraiser) - Sunday 24 May 12 noon - 8pm

Join us for a whole day of cinematic classics, film trivia quizzes, homemade cake and more. Our movie marathon will include Dziga Vertov's 1929 documentary film Man with a Movie Camera, German silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920), Orson Welles directing and starring in The Stranger (1946) and Hitchcock's (and indeed Britain's) first talkie from 1929, Blackmail.

Enjoy some popcorn and while away the intervals in our fabulous café of homemade cakes and refreshments. Plus - bar open throughout, film quizzes with prizes between each film, make your own movie workshops.

JUNE

Spriggan Mist - Friday 5 June 8pm

Pagan-influenced prog with a lot of instruments and a lot of energy, Spriggan Mist make a welcome return to the centre, this time as part of their Myths and Legends tour. Support comes from acoustic duo Knight & Tuffery, playing a range of traditional, contemporary and self-penned songs.

JULY

Creative Skill Share Day (Year of Culture Fundraiser) - Sunday 5 July 10-4pm

Come and get creative with local artistes and makers at a one-day skill-sharing event with all the money raised going back into the centre and our 2016 Year of Culture programming. We will be hosting workshops and drop-in sessions throughout the day including traditional printing, book-binding, jewellery-making, stone-carving and more! Enjoy homemade cakes and a bustling creative atmosphere as we celebrate local arts alongside Reading Arts Week and Jelly's Open for Art Weekend.
