This Weekend

Hi Everyone

I have to admit that I, your humble narrator, happen to be in a bit of a rush this evening. I had been planning a long, flowery introduction, but after hearing the people downstairs doing some emergency DIY at three in the morning (and then arguing ’til 4.30 this morining in different languages) I feel a very, very, very early night is in order.

But before that, something of a weekend-events-at-the-Rising-Sun nature.

First of all, Friday, and the February instalment of CLUB VELOCITY

This month’s cornucopia of live music on the last Friday of the month looks something like this:-

LUKE PAULO AND THE GRAPEFRUIT
Now firm Rising Sun faves. This happens to be their debut headlining slot for Club Velocity. The world is finally waking up to their wonderfully different adventure of musical greatness. Championed by the likes of-BBC Radio Introducing Berkshire, Reading 107fm, Get Reading and the Ocelot.

They are ace. Fact.

MATT MALTESE
We are probably his biggest fans. Only 18 years old, but a huge talent. His debut EP ent top ten on the Itunes chart. To us he sounds like Bill Withers, Ryan Adams, Supertramp and more.

GOLDN
When we heard that Jack, the drummer from Peers wanted to leave and go solo, we thought he was stark staring mad!.

However his new musical project-really is impressive. Far too cool for the likes of us. It is the type of spaced out pop music that Zane Lowe gets all hot and sexy over. The guys from Vice got all hard about it. (but don’t let that put you off) He could be onto something here……

It is pop music, but not as we know it, Jim.

(Please note that this gig is for ages 16 and over)

We’re open at 8pm and it’ll cost you £5 on the door (or £4 in advance fromwww.wegottickets.com).

On Saturday lunchtime, we bring you, CLASSICAL FOR CHARITY

Classical For Charity is a series of classical and jazz concerts at the Rising Sun, performed by local musicians and hosted by local pianist and piano teacher Maija Tuomi-Nikula.

The hour-long concerts will take place every two months, starting with a set by Maija this Saturday.

Come and support the Rising Sun and other charities by enjoying top-quality, rarely heard music in a great, relaxed atmosphere without having to pay enormous ticket prices! Everyone’s a winner!

We’re open at 1pm and it’ll cost you £3 with the proceeds divided equally between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and a chosen Berkshire charity each time.

On Saturday evening, The Scarlet Vixens Present an EVENING OF BURLESQUE

The Scarlet Vixens bring a fresh, unique flavour to the Burlesque scene.

They’re not just showgirls – they’ve got the edge! They blend Burlesque dancing with rock, Bollywood, hip-hop and classic vintage pin-up styles. Their routines are captivating, quirky, and most importantly – fun. See for yourself and come along!

Call Irem on 07876 753 622 for more info.

We’ll be open at 8pm and it’ll cost you £5 on the door to get in

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
