Hi Everyone

Autumn has very much made itself at home, with an assortment of funny weather and annoying people on that new-fangled social media informing us all of how many days there are until Christmas.  At great length.  Every single bloody day.

However, here at the Rising Sun this weekend, we like to think we have plenty to take your mind away from such things...

On Friday, we have THE BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

The October instalment of our monthly night of music and poetry, including traditional and experimental acts who all bring something unexpected.  Singers, songwriters, poets and punks, even the occasional cellist... the possibilities are endless

This time around LITTLE RED will be celebrating the launch of their LP "Sticks and Stones".  A folk trio from the South of England.  Little Red write and perform dark and playful songs with passion and sincerity.

Able support comes in the shape of STUART CLARK, GUS HEWLETT and LAWRENCE PIDDOCK

We're open from 8pm and it'll cost you a paltry £5 at the door to get in.

Saturday is a little bit quiet, however, I am informed that it's Goth night on Strictly Come Dancing (Gary, can you do me a favour and check this is true, there's a good fellow!  Bacon Sandwich waiting on your return)

On Sunday, it's time for BOOKFACE

The 2014 edition of our Artist's Book Fair (or Chapter Five if you feel so inclined).

More than 20 artists' will be selling and exhibiting their HANDMADE BOOKS and installations, from the very large to extremely tiny handmade books, created in many different forms and materials. Including illustrations, printmaking, comic book drawings, collage, interactive sketch books, poetry, sculpture installations, vintage bindings and more.

Throughout the day there will be bookmaking workshops, poetry readings, children’s activities.

1pm Short session of LIVE CLASSICAL MUSIC with Maija Tuomi-Nikula

IMPROVISED POETRY (times to be confirmed)

WORKSHOPS (free/donation):

'How Was Your Journey?' one page book drop in sessions with Jaz Meader

1:30pm - 3:30pm 'Create A Comic' drawing workshop with Stephanie O'Brien

Stab Binding Workshop (drop in) with Brett Davies

More One Page Books with Jaz Meader (half hour sessions):

11:30am - Accordion Books

2pm - Zigzag Books

4pm - Zines

Why not come along and browse stalls and share some ideas?  Also, handmade books, small press, experimental and altered books, illustrators, sculptures and exhibtion pieces.  Poetry readings, story telling and workshops.  And of course, our Cafe with homemade snacks and organic beers.  Lovely!

We're open from 11am to 5pm and it's absolutely FREE!

That's everything for another weekend, just to remind you that you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST  (If you put us in your Google or Sat Nav, we shall magically appear)
