This Weekend's Events (13th to 15th February)

Hi Everyone

You may have noticed that this coming weekend coincides with Valentine's Day.  The one day of the year where people mark that rather unpleasant moment when the renowned scoundrel St Valentine himself crossed to the Dark Side and became a PR executive at Hallmark cards.  Thus making all couples feel guilty for not being able to get a bigger card or a better bunch of flowers for their signifcant other than the purchase they could afford to make, and a sense of angry relief from single people for knowing that even though they're unattached, they don't have to suffer this somewhat disheartening charade every year (Every cloud has a silver lining... sort of!)

(Gary, can you do me a favour and double check this?  Are we absolutely certain it was Hallmark and not Moonpig or Simon Elvin?  Some people get very picky about facts for some reason.  Good lad!)

Anyhow, it's not all bad news.  You'll be pleased to know that we happen to have a busy weekend at the Rising Sun...

On Friday, we welcome back THE BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

Big Untidy returns from its extended sojourn with a not-very-romantic Valentine's special!

Playing this time around are CASSELS - a two piece comprised of two brothers.  However, neither of those facts should be considered noteworthy.  There's able support from bluesmaster ROBERT HOKUM and the ever youthful STATIC IN MOTION.   MIKHAIL THE TERRIBLE will be performing compering duties on the night

We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you a paltry £5 on the door to get in.

On Saturday, THE SCARLET VIXENS present MYTHICAL CREATURES AND FANTASTICAL BEINGS!

Back with a bang in 2015 is our burlesque troupe The Scarlet Vixens. Their first show of the year conveniently falls on Valentine's Day. So grab your loved ones (or your mates!) and head down to tours for all the fantastic, creative and magical burlesque you can expect from a Scarlet Vixens show.  February will have a mythical twist... characters of legend and fairy tale, creatures of the deep. Don't miss it!

Get your mythical and legendary hats on boys and girls, let The Scarlet Vixens transport you to a land far, far away! All the crazy and wonderful burlesque you can expect from a Scarlet Vixens show, with some added fantasy...

Confirmed already on what is going to be a legendary line up are:

MOJO JONES
LAYLA CHERRY
LILYANA L'AMOUR
LORETTA VON DINI
LADY K PHOENIX

And very exciting special guest star, ANGELIQUE DOMINQUE!

Hosted by our favourite potty mouthed, professional dangling Northerner, MISS KITTY PIMMS!

We're open at 8pm.  Tickets are £6.50 early bird, £8.50 thereafter, £10 on the door and £15 VIP. Available to purchase on Eventbrite.

Finally, on Sunday, MILONGA SIMPATICA presents TANGO SELECT

Dance to Reading’s very own tango band. Tango Select have played at The Rising Sun a couple of times recently and have provided tangueros in the town with a fantastic afternoon/evening of dancing and music. The band plays a mixture of tangos, vals and milongas - some well known, others less so, but all very good to dance to. A fabulous opportunity to hear and dance to some fantastic live tango music.

We're open from 4.30pm to 8pm.  And it'll cost you £8.on the door

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
