This Weekend's Events (16th to 18th February)

Hi Everyone

If you look at it from an animal's perspective, it's hard to see why David Attenborough is so revered.  I appreciate this won't be a popular opinion, however, imagine if you were having your dinner and some posh bloke let himself into the kitchen and started whispering about you.  Or even worse...

And following on from that, we have a busy weekend for you at the Rising Sun this weekend, starting with Friday and STAND UP CINEMA

Back to the Rising Sun and back to its more traditional Friday slot!

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.

Our main feature this month is HIS GIRL FRIDAY (Howard Hawks, 1940)

A remake of ‘The Front Page’ and voted 13th best comedy ever made by the Guardian. His Girl Friday is a screwball comedy (like a rom-com but infinitely better) starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. She is an ace reporter about to go off and get married he's the editor tempting her with stories to make her stay. One of the fastest-talking films ever made and genuinely hilarious.

It'll cost you a paltry £5 on the door.  Short Films start at 7.30. His Girl Friday starts showing at 8.00 pm.

On Saturday, CLUB VELOCITY PRESENTS!

The third Saturday of the month?  The third Saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.

THE GO GO CULT
If we have anything to do with it, then 2018 will be the year where more of
you pop kids are aware of the Go Go Cult.  Are they a garage band?  Are they a surf band?  Are they a billy band?  To our ears they remind us of great long lost bands like Man Or Astroman and the Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet.Great DIY labels like Estrus and Get Hip.  Washington before Kurt.  Cheap beer and ribs.  Flipside and Maximum Rock'n'roll.  John Peel would have got the Go Go Cult and so should you.

HORSEROCK
Your fave surf (proper) garage band via Mexico via Bellingham via Billy Idol.  Do.  Not.  Mess.  With.  Them.

NEW PURITANS
Legendary 80s Reading punks are coming out of their caves, to play for your good people.  More punk than Right Said Fred.  More punk than Status Quo.  More punk than your Dad.

They are not Skinhead(s) by default!

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £7 on the door to get in (£5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

That's everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
