Hi Everyone

As we wend our way towards the end of March, people will be acidentally putting their clocks forward this weekend instead of next.  If you are one of those people, you happen to be in good company!  I, your humble narrator, had to double check myself...

Must be old age, I suppose. Never mind, why don't we all park our zimmer frames and walking sticks as one in common cause, and I can tell you what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend?

On Friday, we bring you STAND-UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk

This month's main feature is GODZILLA (Ishiro Honda, 1954)

Since its release, Honda's original Godzilla has been regarded not only as one of the best giant monster films ever made but also an important cinematic achievement.  In 2015 Variety named it one of the "10 Best Monster Movies of All Time"

To coincide with Science Week the film will be accompanied by a talk organised by the British Science Association, which will touch on the environment and future uses of nuclear energy

It'll cost you a paltry £4 on the door.  Short Films start at 7.30. Raging Bull starts showing at 8.00 pm.

On Saturday, it's time for BANDORAMA

The third saturday of the month?  The third saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.  And as an early celebration for Club Velocity reaching the milestone of 13 years, you can also expect an abundance of (free) cake, celebration and general mayhem.  There's even some bands playing...

QUIET QUIET BAND
One of the best live bands around.  They deal in punk-alt country-blue grass greatness.

BIG ZERO
Are quite possibly the greatest three piece in all the land.  They are the future of POP.Oh yes they are.  For fans of Devo/Weezer/The Cars

THE JOHNS
That London-media darlings-who do not own that many records.2016 are shouting 'Power Pop' Erm....to us The Johns sound like a rather sassy UK/Canadian PUNK band-but have tunes. They strut. The sort of band that Radio 1 really should shout about.  This is their debut Reading show, with their debut seven inch being released by very soon.......

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £5 on the door to get in (£4 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

Finally on Sunday, MILONGA SIMPATICA brings you TANGO SELECT

A small, friendly afternoon milonga aimed at giving people a chance to dance tango in a relaxed and stress-free environment and this month we bring you live music from Tango Select. Tango Select play a selection of very danceable tangos, vals and milongas. Great for dancers or come to listen and enjoy the ambience and the friendly atmosphere of the Rising Sun. The band haven’t played in a little while so its great to welcome them back for their 1st milonga of 2016!

We'll be open from 4pm-8pm  And it'll cost you a paltry £6. Join us.

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
