Hi Everyone

Did you know, that the other day I had a dream where I got up and went to work.  And, you know what?  They really do come true!

But that’s enough of such depressing talk, as we happen to have another fun-packed weekend at the Rising Sun.  (What do you mean you’re staying at home?)

It all starts on Friday with another helping of STAND UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.

Our main feature this month is THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY (Ingmar Bergman, 1961)
Swedish drama film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman. The film tells the story of a young woman with schizophrenia spending time with her family on a remote island, and having delusions about meeting God, who appears to her in the form of a monstrous spider.

An Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film.

There's no admission charge at the door (but feel welcome to leave £5 aside for a donation if you like).  This film is sponsored by Open Mind Reading and will include a short presentation on the depiction of mental health in cinema at 7.30pm. Through a Glass Darkly starts showing at 8.00 pm.

On Saturday, CLUB VELOCITY PRESENTS

The third Saturday of the month?  The third Saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.

MARK MORRISS
Mark Morriss is back at the Rising Sun Arts Centre.  He was wonderful last year.  And we're so happy that he has agreed to come back.  If you missed him last time, please don't miss him again.

Mark is a singer songwriter who famously made his name fronting English indie outfit The Bluetones. He fronted the four piece over a successful and fruitful 15 year period, scoring 14 top ten singles and 3 top ten albums.

Although The Bluetones are now touring again, Mark has continued the solo career that started back in 2008.

As a solo artist, he is honestly one of the best acts on the circuit.
This will be a great show.

MATT STOCKL
Your fave singer songwriter from Windsor and a firm Rising Sun favourite

DAMIEN A PASSMORE
Living local legend.  (So it says here)

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £12 on the door to get in or £10 in advance from www.wegottickets.com

Sunday sees another DIVERSITY SOCIAL

A new, accessible social club for adults with mobility issues. The Social will be held monthly and there will be music, snacks and a bar.

The club is run by Luisa from the Messy Club and her friend Steph, who is a wheelchair user with limited mobility due to cerebral palsy.

Steph and Luisa met and became friends 3 years ago at the Move Up group.

Luisa said "Steph is one of the most independent women I have ever met. She never complains and gives great advice. We always have lots of laughs."

Over time we've always worked out a way to try the new things Steph wants to do, whether it's jewellery making or painting water colour and it's from this determination that The Diversity Social has been born.

We would like our it to grow into something special. We have big dreams of nights out, a supper club, film nights and live music. We're both so grateful to our wonderful Rising Sun Arts Centre family for all the help and support they've given us and for giving the social a home.

We'll be open at 6.30pm and it's absolutely FREE!  Come and join our gang!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
