This Weekend's Events (1st to 3rd December)

Hi Everyone

The days get ever shorter, they get ever colder.  Noddy Holder and Roy Wood will emerge from hibernation to earn their corn as it were. People start looking at their wish lists and start crossing off all the gifts they probably won't be getting, which must be particularly galling if you've chosen socks, Hai-Karate or a book token as your must-have present

But it's not all bad news, equally bad weather and some bloke telling us that he's "driving home for Christmas" on every radio station in the land (apart from 6Music where Lauren Laverne will be playing a cement mixer accompanied by some random beats and some bloke with a silly beard and an achingly trendy haircut)  It also happens to be time to let you know what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend!!

Saturday lunchtime sees CLASSICAL FOR CHARITY - THE FINAL CADENCE

Classical For Charity is a series of classical and jazz concerts at The Rising Sun Arts Centre, performed by local musicians and hosted by local pianist and piano teacher Maija Varvatsis.

This is the last Classical For Charity concert at the Rising Sun Arts Centre.

We're going to have a wonderful programme with several different performers and instruments so please do join us for a great send-off for the concert series!

This far we have Amy Gibb on clarinet, Eric-Michael Sutherland-Kempster on trumpet, Carole Sevestre and her daughter Lilla performing four-handed piano duets, Jonny Owens on guitar and Maija as the accompanist.  There's also Nicole Monique Johnson, outside of her usual jazzy realm, singing a few classical tunes for us!

Maija would like to thank everyone who has attended the concerts, whether as members of audience or as performers, and especially the Rising Sun Arts Centre for providing her with the opportunity to host her own concert series and raise money for some truly excellent charities as well as the Rising Sun itself.

Maija adds “It has been exciting and wonderful four years and I will leave happy in the knowledge that we have done some good in the world through classical music.”

The chosen charity for this weekend’s concert will be announced on the day.

We’ll be open from 12pm to 2pm and it’ll cost you a paltry £3

Finally on Sunday, we have our CHRISTMAS ART MARKET

An excellent opportunity to buy unique, handmade and original works of art and craft direct from local artists. Browse stalls, relax in our lovely Yellow Teapot Cafe and bar with homemade snacks and mulled wine. Join in with some family art activities too.

Put the fun back into Christmas shopping, and support your local art centre and artists!

Browse stalls on two floors selling paintings, jewellery, printmaking, photography, ceramics, textiles and more.  Relax and treat yourself to homemade cakes, snacks and mulled wine in our cosy cafe bar.  Also, we'll have live music and family art activities to give you that festive feeling

We're open from 11am to 5pm and again, admission is totally FREE!!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Hi Everyone

The other night I had this very vivid dream where I woke up and went to work.  They really do come true

The nights are drawing in, the weather’s getting a bit greyer… but our September-December programme is here to shine like a literal rising sun over the next few months.
