This Weekend's Events (1st to 3rd July)

Hi Everyone

You know, they say that the pen is mightier than the sword, but I don't know of anybody who has ever won a duel using a biro.  Perhaps whoever came up with that saying was thinking of one of those pens James Bond might carry.

Where was I?  Sorry about that, a little distracted there.  A little thank you to everybody who came through our doors last weekend, it was quite a busy one even by our standards and your presence was very welcome and appreciated as ever!

This weekend is a little quieter with just the one event, it's on saturday lunchtime and it's CLASSICAL FOR CHARITY

Classical For Charity is a series of classical and jazz concerts at The Rising Sun Arts Centre, performed by local musicians and hosted by local pianist and piano teacher Maija Varvatsis.

Come and support us by enjoying top-quality, rarely heard music in a great, relaxed atmosphere without having to pay enormous ticket prices!

You might be interseted to know that this month's concert is a very exciting one, as it will be Maija's last solo concert as an amateur pianist! By the time of the concert she will have completed her final exams before starting to work towards the first of the three ABRSM Diplomas, which will give her the right to use the title of Concert Pianist! We at the Rising Sun would like to send our congratulations

The programme for this concert consists of material played in both Maija's Finnish Grade C2 exam in 2006 (technically equivalent to ABRSM Grade 8 but with more detailed interpretation skill requirements and a longer programme), and the ABRSM Grade 8 exam which she's about to take within the next two weeks, including music from J. S. Bach, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Liszt, the Finnish composer Esa Ylivaara and British composer Philip Martin. The musical styles will vary from fast and strict baroque to contemporary classical music.

The chosen charity for this concert will be The Samaritans.

Tickets cost £3 as usual but this time kids go free. There will be coffee and tea and other refreshments available.  Doors open at 12.30 and music starts at 13.00. We look forward to seeing you!

That's everything for another week.  Just to remind you that barring bizarre unexplained phenemona or gallant little England's encounter against the mighty Iceland being replayed, that you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading Berkshire, England, Europe, Northern Hemisphere, Planet Earth. The Solar System, Milky Way, Near Andromeda, The Universe, RG1 2ST  (If you put us in your Google, Bing or satnav we shall magically appear)
