Here at Rising Sun HQ we strive for perfection every week. Or at least a little pre-amble for this evening's little missive from us to you, however, life has rather got in the way... again!
However on the bright side, we have now purchased a dog for the office. Not only does it provide a substantial amount of entertainment when things are a bit quiet or motivation somewhat lacking, but we are now safely reassured that when we claim "the dog ate it" we now at least have a sufficient scapegoat in the shape of Nigel, our Staffordshire Terrier-Hyaena cross...
And as Gary tries valiantly to remove Hendryx J's leg from Nigel's jaws it's time to tell you what we have for your entertainment at the Rising Sun this weekend.
On Friday evening, we bring you something special from ABDOULAYE SAMB
Abdoulaye Samb is a guitarist, singer and composer from Senegal. His original music is inspired by Fula and Mandinka cultures and his distinctive musical style has grown out of his travels, collaborations and researches in Africa and Europe. Abdoulaye plays a truly remarkable Senegalese blues, which draws on elements of the rich Fula tradition interwoven with Rumba, Mbalax, Afro-Latin and deep blues. He has played with many great artists and groups such as Assane Mboup, Abdou Diop, Salam Diallo, Daby Balde, Abou Thiouballo and Baaba Maal. He will be playing the Rising Sun as a duo with guest bass guitarist, Edd Batman, and promises to provide a wonderfully intimate experience of African/Senegalese music.
We'll be open at 8pm and it'll cost you £10 on the door
On Saturday it's time for THE READING KABARET KOLLECTIVE
Featuring MC and chanteuse Baroness Maria von Hackemann (from Alternative Queen Reading, and Here Comes the Sun) plus talented guests SHANE AND ALEX, and the delightful TANIA TWINKLE, as well as our ukelele kabaret singalong corner with KATE COOPER!
Come to the cabaret and enjoy a night of live eclectic 'klein Kunst'!
We'll be flinging our doors open at 8pm and it'll cost you £10 (£8 concs) to get in
