Hi Everyone

It really annoys me how people nowadays are always moaning on about how things were better in the old days.  Nobody ever complained in my day... hang on....

And following on from that, we still have something special for you at the Rising Sun this weekend, starting with Friday and STAND UP CINEMA

Back to the Rising Sun and back to its more traditional Friday slot!

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.

This month's Stand Up Cinema is dedicated to experimental films

An evening where artists and filmmakers show short experimental pieces. Filmmakers will be on hand to talk about the films and the evening will be a chance to network and socialise.

We're open at 7.30pm and it'll cost you a paltry £5 on the door.

On Saturday daytime, we host the BBC RADIO BERKSHIRE'S ROYAL BUNTING WORKSHOP

The royal wedding is coming to Berkshire in May and we’re making some giant bunting to decorate the crowd barriers in Windsor.

Come and help us make some beautiful Berkshire bunting to celebrate Harry and Meghan’s wedding at our fun, free workshop!  You can paint, draw or sew on your design, on your own or as a group effort with family and friends – all ages and abilities welcome. Let’s show the happy couple how pleased we are for them and how proud we are that they’re getting married in our county.

The workshop runs from 10am-4pm with sessions running every hour. To guarantee your place, email BerkshireBunting@bbc.co.uk with your name and preferred time slot.

Then, in the evening it's...

CLUB VELOCITY PRESENTS!

Finally, Sunday sees another OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
