Hi Everyone

As we wend our way towards the end of March, people will be acidentally putting their clocks forward this weekend instead of next.  If you are one of those people, you happen to be in good company!  I, your humble narrator, had to double check myself...

Must be old age, I suppose. Never mind, why don't we all park our zimmer frames and walking sticks as one in common cause, and I can tell you what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend?

On Friday, we bring you STAND UP CINEMA

Stand Up Cinema is our monthly film club with a little bit of help from those nice folks at Real Time VIdeo. It’s the only cinema night in Reading where you can findshort films from local film-makers and a selection of contemporary and classic films that you won’t often find elsewhere. It’s also the only cinema night in town where you can enjoy a beer with your popcorn!

By the way, if you’d like to show a short film of your own, why not drop a line to info@real-time.org.uk? It doesn’t have to be the finished article, it just needs to be 10 minutes or less in length. It’s a great way to get some audience reaction.

This month’s main feature is THE FOUNTAIN.  (Darren Aronofsky, 2006)
.
The Fountain blends elements of fantasy, history, religion, and science fiction, weaving themes of eternal life and the fear of death through three stories separated in time. We are showing this film as part of Science Week.. The film touches on similar themes to the Science Week project (longevity and symbiosis) and we are very pleased to have Dr. Alistair Nunn from the University of Reading along to speak about some of the ideas presented in the film.

Dr Nunn works in the field of age-related diseases, cancer and metabolic syndromes. He is a fan of the movie and its philosophical content and will speak about some of the themes and questions that it raises.

Short films all start at 7.30 and The Fountain starts at 8.00 pm. Entry is £4.

On Saturday, we bring you FIESTA LATINA

A little piece of Cuba hidden away in Reading. A relaxed and friendly Latin party with lots of Latin music so you can dance, or just socialise. You can expect plenty of Salsa, tango and whatever the mood suggests: bachata, milonga, merengue and reggaeton. Maybe more!

We’re open from 9pm and it’ll cost you a paltry £6.to get in

Finally on Tuesday, FINCHIES BAR presents LAWRENCE PIDDOCK

Not only is Lawrence a Rising Sun Legend, but he'll be bringing his amazing ukulele and repertoire of songs including a selection of "serenades" about not so happy couples, bumping into one's ex and erstwhile work colleagues.   Such subject matter actually turns out to be lots of fun and great to sing along,
Not only that, but you can also expect a display of magic from the one and only JACK WELLINGS

We'll be open at 7pm and expect to pay no more than £1 at most to get in

That's everything for another weekend, just to remind you that you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST  (If you put us in your Google or Sat Nav, we shall magically appear)
