Hi Everyone

Now... I was planning a long pre-amble about this week's exciting cornucopia of all things Rising Sun related, but after some consideration/faffing about/life jsut getting in the way, I felt it might be better to let this weekend's events speak for themselves...

Friday's a little quiet, but on Saturday we bring you something different in the shape of FUSION

Fusion is a one day Sound Salon with Sinéad Bligh, Harriet Butler, Gary Charles, Copper Sounds, Shirley Penga, Starky and the Moondoctor, Linda Stupart and WE (Pil & Galia Kollectiv), curated by Simone Hesselberg

We'll be hosting an ensemble of artists working with sound, who eschew traditional artistic mediums. Fusion is an immersive auditory experience tinged with chaos, and includes performances, installations and videos bringing a vibrant range of new commissions and existing work to Reading.

Fusion is supported by Arts Council England, Reading International and the University of Reading

We're open from 2pm to 9pm and it's absolutely FREE!!

On Sunday afternoon, we bring you another BALBOA TEA DANCE

After the roaring success of the Balboa Mondays 2016 and 2017 Tea Dances we are back with another edition to raise money for this wonderful place which has given Balboa Mondays a home. So come along, have a dance and eat cake to help put some money towards the Rising Sun Arts Centre. This time to raise (hopefully the final bit of) money to replace the floor in the upstairs room to improve out ability to shuffle, jazz step and rueda our way through 2018!

As per last year we will be kicking the afternoon off at 2:00pm with a taster balboa class, then from 2.30pm onwards we will have the finest DJs playing tunes for your dancing pleasure right the way through to 6.00pm whilst offering ample opportunities to partake of tea and cake. All this for a bargain £10 on the door!

Finally, Sunday evening sees another OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
