This Weekend's Events (26th to 29th October)

Hi everyone

Life is full of surprises.  HG Wells was so convinced of this that he once remarked that “we must not allow the clock and the calendar to bind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and a mystery”.  Of course it is possible that he might’ve forgotten to put his clock back on an October weekend (you might want to remember that before head off to bed on Saturday night)

One particular surprise is this week’s mailout!  For this weekend at the Rising Sun happens to begin a day early, on Thursday we are pleased to be welcome MARTIN ALVARADO to our humble abode once again

Martin Alvarado is back to kick off the UK leg of his 2017 solo tour. His performance last year was a real stand-out, and we’re very pleased to have him back at the centre for another wonderful evening of tango music.

The Buenos Aires-born troubadour is Argentina's finest tango vocalist whose mesmerising voice has been enchanting audiences around the world for 14 years performing his acclaimed repertoire of Piazzolla, classic tangos, South American songs, and his own work.

He is joined by the phenomenally creative pianist and bandoneon player, Mikko Helenius, from Finland. Mikko’s cool Scandinavian persona is the perfect foil for Alvarado's passionate Latino character, both bringing some surprises and comedy along the way.

“Totally mesmerising, a tango epiphany.” Max Reinhardt, BBC Radio 3 Late Junction presenter

"The best voice in Buenos Aires" the late Hector de Rosas, former singer with Astor Piazzolla

We’re open at 8pm and tickets are available on the door at £12 each

On Friday, we bring you CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of beat combos for the enjoyment of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ and it looks just so:-

VIENNA DITTO
The Reading two piece. Girl/Boy duo, that really are now firm mainstays of the local music scene.

They deal in electro pop, with a huge slab of blues. Over the last eighteen months, the music world have really woken up to the sound of Vienna Ditto.  They have been championed by 6 Music, XFM, BBC Berkshire Introducing, BBC Berkshire Oxford.

DEERFUL
3rd time this year.Made a lot of friends since they first time she supported Neans On Toast.  Great pop music for the masses

CITY SCAFFOLD
Local sensations who just happen to be back at their spiritual home.  Clever teens, who deal in blues tinged rock.  Ace.

We’ll be open at 8pm and it’ll cost you £11 on the door, or £10 in advance from www.wegottickets.com or www.skiddle.com

On Saturday evening, we bring you FIESTA LATINA

A fun and sociable dance night featuring a mix of Latin dances from tango to meringue, salsa to bachata and all the stops in between (La Rueda is a speciality). Very friendly evening in somewhere that could have been lifted straight out of Cuba. Come and enjoy some hot Latin rhythms.

We'll be open at 9pm and it'll cost you a paltry £6 on the door to get in

And on top of all this, you can still catch our Abel Auer exhibition is at the centre until November 11th. That means that there's no excuse to miss it! It really is a wonderful transformation of our space and we're excited for as many people to see it as possible over the coming weeks.

It's open to the public from 11am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday.

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
