This weekend's Events (29th November to 1st December)

Well, well, it's that last week before December.  Michael bloody Buble and Jools Holland are being unfrozen from their cryogenic pods.  In a warehouse somewhere, a sad coca-cola worker tries to defrost the festive trucks.  And Mariah Carey laughs at her bank account.

But it's not all bad news or people playing Christmas songs since October.  We have one or two things at the Rising Sun to take your mind off such depressing things.

First of all, Friday sees another CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of live sounds for the enjoyment of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ and it looks just so:-

Singer-songwriter Will Varley has come a long way since his early days haunting the open mics of South London and busking around on The Underground. After releasing his 5th studio album in 2018, his largely sold-out UK tour drew to a close with a triumphant show at London's legendary Shepherd's Bush Empire.

There is a depth to Will's songwriting that sets him apart and has propelled his music far and wide. From songs like 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' which tells the heart-wrenching story of an Angolan immigrant attempting to enter the UK, to the hyper-engaging 'Weddings and Wars' in which he attempts a history of the world in under four minutes, Varley's songs seem to transcend themselves, marrying vivid imagery, politics, emotion and surrealism to capture his musings in a way that is quite remarkable.

“One of the best songwriters in the UK”
Frank Turner

“A serious new talent”
Simon Nicol of Fairport Convention

“At his lyrical best”
The Times

“Evokes the likes of Bright Eyes, Springsteen and Dylan effortlessly”
Clash Magazine

“Powerful, political & pertinent”
The Independent

We're open at 8pm for an 8.30 start, and we are already SOLD OUT! There will be no tickets available on the door!

On Saturday, we bring you FIESTA LATINA

A fun and sociable dance night featuring a mix of Latin dance from tango to merengue, salsa to bachata and all the stops in between (La Rueda is a speciality). A very friendly evening in somewhere that could have been lifted straight out of Cuba.  Come and enjoy some hot Latin rhythms. With music from DJ TIJERAS.

We'll be open at 9pm, and it'll cost you a paltry £6 on the door to get in

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
