Tribute Night: T.Rex

Price:
Free admission, but donations will be taken during the event - suggested £5 minimum

At the 2015 winter edition of Tribute Night, we’ll be throwing ourselves into a state of T-Rexstacy and celebrating the songs of Marc Bolan, from mystical flower child to electric glam warrior.

With his pretty Botticellian face and curls and whimsically glamorous image, Marc Bolan fronted T.Rex and generated fan hysteria in the early- to mid-’70s reminiscent of Beatlemania.  A well known scene-making mod, Bolan began releasing solo singles in the mid-’60s and enjoyed minor success with the outlandish group John’s Children.  Tyrannosaurus Rex recorded its debut album in 1968, blending familiar acoustic textures with unfamiliar exotic instrumentation and highlighting Bolan’s lyrics, a heady concoction of myth, fantasy and magic – some might say utter nonsense.  As a flower-power band, Tyrannosaurus Rex earned a sizeable underground following, but with a truncated name and expanded line-up, T.Rex achieved widespread mainstream success, embracing a full-blown glam rock attack and influencing countless hard rock, heavy metal, punk and Britpop bands to come.

Let me know if you’d like to be involved and ping your song requests to tributenight@hotmail.co.uk so I can add them to the list.  It’s all about inclusion and participation here at Tribute Night, so don’t be shy!

Admission is free, but keep at least a fiver aside in that tiny pocket-within-a-pocket in your jeans to donate when a friendly looking person thrusts a cash-hungry hat towards you during the interval.

Doors open at 8pm for a prompt 8:30pm start.

Don’t forget to follow Tribute Night on Facebook too.
