Stand-Up Cinema presents The Tales of Hoffmann

The Tales of Hoffmann (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, 1951)
The Tales of Hoffmann is a beautifully photographed film version of Offenbach's opera, a magic blend of adventure and romance with an endless stream of gorgeous melodies, tender love scenes, bizarre characters, and tragic climaxes. The film tells three stories of Hoffmann’s great loves and is infused with Powel and Pressburger’s flamboyant extravagance. It is unlike anything else you will ever see in a cinema. This newly reissued print means that we can see the film restored to its original vitality and splendour.
Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at the next Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.
