Double Okay LGBTQIA+ Making Sessions

Price:
Free

Double Okay are excited to host making sessions for LGBTQIA+ people at the Rising Sun Arts Centre! All sessions are free to LGBTQIA+ people, but please sign up for a place as we have limited numbers. You will need to book a place for each session, tickets for future sessions will be released monthly. Book your tickets here.

The Double Okay Making Sessions are open to anybody over 14 years old. We are excited to support an intergenerational space, and encourage people of all ages to attend.

The sessions are designed to be casual and informal, and give space for people to socialise in a low pressure environment, so whilst there is a theme and material prompts you can come to just hang out. You don't need any arts experience to join in!

The first 7 sessions will focus on different methods of making and different queer themes. From session 8-12, we will be focusing on zine making with the aim of putting all the sessions work together and creating a community zine.

The sessions will take place in the main hall at the Rising Sun Arts Centre, which is wheelchair accessible. There are 2 gender neutral toilets on the ground floor, with 1 accessible toilet. The space will be sober, with teas, coffees, drinks and snacks provided for free. Once you've booked your spot in the workshop, you can fill out a google form that tells us about any dietary requirements or access needs.

We have a bursary travel fund for those from low income backgrounds, or anybody who needs financial support to travel to these sessions. You can let us know if this is something you need by filling out the google form or emailing us at doubleokaygroup@gmail.com

The sessions will run every 3rd Saturday of the month.

These sessions are run by Ollie (they/them) and George (she/they) from Double Okay, who are both working artists in Reading. They have experience of working with young people, running arts workshops, hosting events for LGBTQIA+ people and are excited to share this space with you! Should you need any help or support during the sessions, please let either Ollie or George know and they'll be there to help.

Double Okay are a queer and trans arts collective based in Reading. They work with LGBTQIA+ people and artists, and create safer spaces for the queer community. Double Okay have been running workshops, exhibitions, performance events and digital streams since 2018. This project is funded by Reading Borough Council and in collaboration with the Rising Sun Arts Centre.

If you have any questions or need any help, please let us know by emailing doubleokaygroup@gmail.com
