Hi Everyone

The latest Spice Girls reunion is really taking me back in time.  It's one of my claims to fame that in late 1994, I saw one of their earliest gigs at the Camden Falcon.  Back then, they were a seven-piece outfit including two older ladies, Gladys and Maureen.  Their cover of the Crass classics "You're Already Dead" and "Do They Owe Us A Living?" really had to be heard to be believed.  And despite what Maureen lacked in youth, she could certainly play guitar.  Sadly, however, legend has it that the two Mels, Victoria, Emma and the other one told Gladys and Maureen that they were calling it a day not long after, only to reform a week later without them.

But never mind, it's only Rocknroll!  Three cheers for the Spice Girls!  (Apart from Emma, who - despite her public persona - was the mardy Machievelli who engineered Gladys and Maureen's departure)

And with that out of the way, it's time to let you know what's on at the Rising Sun this weekend

Just the one event this weekend and it comes courtesy of CLUB UFO

Club UFO?  I hear you ask.  They just happen to be a Reading based group of young creatives working together to host DIY gigs and promote the grassroots music scene.  This is their first time at the Rising Sun and they even go as far to describe us a "iconic".

THE KEEP CATS
Seemingly a constant on the local scene despite their tender years. The Keep Cats are possibly Reading's brightest young talent. With a maturity to their songwriting which belies their youth, this four piece's energetic brand of post punk will be sure to get you moving.

INDICA PALM RADIO
The brainchild of Wokingham based Jonas Butler, Indica Palm Radio are a collective brought together to play melodic indie of the highest order. You'll be sure to be humming the hooks all evening.

THE PETTIES
Originally from Reading but now based in Bristol and following firmly in the footsteps of punk heroes Idles, angsty vocals and aggressive guitars are the order of the day for this darkly humorous bunch.

We're open from 7pm.  You can pay £5 on the door to get in or £4 in advance from that new-fangled www.wegottickets.com

(By the way, Gary has just told me that he preferred All Saints back in the day)

That really is everything for another weekend, just to remind you, that you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST  (If you put us in your Google or Sat Nav, we shall magically appear)

See you all next week!
