Hi Everyone

January can be a rather depressing month.  You have a pay packet that needs to stretch as far weeks on end, to never stops raining and some one-man Smashie and Nicey hybrid is cheerfully berating you that it's "only 365 sleeps til Christmas!!!  What's that Arnold?  Thet's absolutely bonkers!  I love Christmas, don't you?"

But hey it's not all bad news!  The evenings start getting lighter for a start.  At one point this week there was daylight for as long as 1.35pm and the weather reached a balmy minus five.

And if clinging on to false hope isn't quite your thing, we at the Rising Sun briefly emerge from hibernation to give you a little something this weekend!

Sunday brings the first OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE of 2020

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Oh soddit!  I never wanted to do this job in the first place!

I... I wanted to be...

A lumberjack!

Leaping from tree to tree! As they float down the mighty rivers of
British Columbia! With my best girl by my side!
The Larch!
The Pine!
The Giant Redwood tree!
The Sequoia!
The Little Whopping Rule Tree!
We'd sing! Sing! Sing!

Oh, I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay,
I sleep all night and I work all day.

He's a lumberjack, and he's okay,
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch,
I go to the lava-try.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea
