Hi Everyone

Did you know, that the other day I had a dream where I got up and went to work.  And, you know what?  They really do come true!

But that’s enough of such depressing talk, as we happen to have another fun-packed weekend at the Rising Sun.  (What do you mean you’re staying at home?)

On Friday STAND UP CINEMA and MADCAP MOONSOUP present THE MIGHT OF THE OCEAN

Stand Up Cinema and Madcap Moonsoup join forces to bring you an evening of film and live music. STARKEY AND THE MOON DOCTOR, HORSE ROCK, MARK II, BRIGHT SHADOWS and more to be confirmed. Plus, some environmental themed videos will be shown between acts.

You can find out more at www.berkshiregreenpeace.org.uk

We’ll be open at 8pm and entry is FREE (Donations will be collected for Greenpeace’s campaigns)

Saturday sees another thrilling instalment of BANDORAMA

The third saturday of the month?  The third saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.

LITTLE RED
A critically-acclaimed Indie-Folk outfit about to release their second album. Championed by BBC Radio, Nightshift Magazine and signed to All Will Be Well Records.

OCEAN RUINS
Ocean Ruins are a melodic trio, with fierce vocals & 90's alt rock inspired guitars, their style has been likened to bands such as The Pixies, Wolf Alice, Yeah Yeah Yeahs & early PJ Harvey.  Delicate melodies descend into bass fuzz distortion in a varied set blending grunge, indie rock & anthemic choruses.

In 2015 the Berkshire band released their debut EP titled 'Hope' which found favour with BBC Introducing & they signed to Oxford indie label 'All Will Be Well Records' in January 2016.

JONATHAN AMPHLETT
Jonathan has been part of many successful Reading bands, including Johnny Arrow & The Cheap Day Returns, Sleep Room and Kicking Television and has supported the likes of Mark Morriss of the Bluetones, critically acclaimed band Everything Everything and Guardian favourites, Tuff Love.

He is now taking the whole blame for everything that he does as he strikes out on his own.  No shrinking bedroom troubadour, Jonathan Amphlett rips off the best bits of Josh Ritter, Courtney Barnett, Matt Berninger and Jeff Tweedy; lyrics that would make Hemmingway fire his shotgun in appreciation combined with an electric English country swing.

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £6 on the door to get in (£5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

Sunday sees another OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

And don’t forget you can still catch our Abel Auer exhibition is at the centre until November 11th. That means that there's no excuse to miss it! It really is a wonderful transformation of our space and we're excited for as many people to see it as possible over the coming weeks.

It's open to the public from 11am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday.

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
