Hi Everyone

We're delighted to announce that we've been shortlisted for THREE Reading Culture Awards! (http://readingplaceofculture.org/awards/)

- Cultural Organisation of the Year
- Cultural Space of the Year
- Partnership of the Year for Zap Magazine (alongside Real Time Video, Spectrum Arts, Our Time Video, and our very own Neile Wright and the Move Up project)

Massive thanks to all who nominated us, and to the panel for shortlisting us! Best of luck to all the nominees and we'll see who brings home the trophies on 27th June

And with that particular example of blowing one's own trumpet, there's also another exciting cornucopia of events at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday, we bring you CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of beat combos for the enjoyment of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ and it looks just so:-

CITY SCAFFOLD
Played here on New Years Eve and made a lot of friends. Many a seasoned gig-goer gave these kids a big thumbs up.  They deal in rock, with a deep groove.  Ace.

BLIND RHYTHM
Nice Kids On The Block from Newbury.  One of the best female fronted throttle bands we have heard in 2018.

MODERN WAYS
Debut show.  Teenage rocknroll indie guitar greatness with a street swagger. Ace!

We’ll be open at 8pm and it’ll cost you £7 on the door, or £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com

Saturday sees READ COLLEGE present PLATFORM

Read college is back with PLATFORM, a brand new comedy show written and devised by the students of Read college. From blank page to a hilarious, fully scripted professional production in just three weeks. A charity event to support Read college student hardship fund, dedicated to promoting arts training to all students, no matter what their economic background.

This year, they have two shows:
Acting Foundation Course students – Saturday May 26th 2018
Vocational Sixth Form students – Saturday June 23rd 2018

We're open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm.  There's no admission charge, but we suggest you keep some money aside for donations

Finally, Sunday sees another OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
